On Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 00:49 AM a Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Route 28 near the intersection of Springer Lane in West Yarmouth.

The crash involved a westbound gray 2005 Ford Focus operated by Jessica D. King of South Yarmouth and an eastbound fully marked white 2005 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser operated by Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Justin Haire.

The head-on crash occurred as Patrol Officer Haire was in the process of providing back up assistance to another Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer who was conducting a motor vehicle stop in front of the Cape Cod Irish Village Resort.

Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department were called to the scene and both operators were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis were they were both examined and released.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department provided photographic services and the Yarmouth and Massachusetts State Police secured the immediate area while traffic was diverted for several hours to allow members of the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit to conduct an investigation.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Yarmouth Police Department at 508-775-0445 or the Massachusetts State Police at 508-993-8373.
