Police looking for someone to give them the bird…

…or at least help them solve their most recent bird carving caper!

The seemingly pilfered Miniature Ruffed Grouse (see missing bird photo) carries a surprisingly high 'street value,' somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000, and the Dennis Police Department is looking for your help.

The 5-inch carving reportedly had been on display and last seen on a counter at Eldred’s Auction Gallery located at 1483 Route 6A, East Dennis.

The grouse is believed to have been stolen sometime between 12:00 and 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2008.

Investigators are baffled and at a loss for leads, yet bird capers of this featherless variety are seldom taken lightly.

Still uncertain as to whether or not the heist had been a one or two-man operation, Dennis Police have designated a tip line (see below) and are seeking additional clues.

Case highlights:

-         5-inch Miniature Ruffed Grouse carving

-         signed on the bottom with “A.E. Crowell & Son Cape Cod Mass”

-         Mounted on a driftwood base

-         High “street” value

Dennis Police Department: 508-394-1315

Ruffed Grouse Tip Line: 774-352-1500
