HYANNIS – Saturday evening – The armed robbery reportedly took place just over the line in Mashpee shortly after 9:45pm, where two men showed a 38 revolver and made off with roughly $600.
Just before 10pm Barnstable Police Dispatch broadcast a BOLO over their patrol force operations frequency regarding an armed robbery which had just occurred in Mashpee.
All Barnstable patrol units were told to be on the lookout for a green Acura with a possible partial MA registration of “whisky, two, Zulu” (W 2 Z).
The two occupants were described as being “Jamaican,” one possibly wearing an “echo” shirt, with black jeans. One of the men allegedly had shown a 38 revolver during the robber. Roughly $600 was reported as missing. The robbery allegedly took place on Great Neck Road North.
The vehicle was last seen heading south of Route 130, believed towards the Town of Barnstable.
Shortly after the BOLO transmission, an off-duty Barnstable officer believed he recognized the sketchy description of the two individuals. Subsequently a marked Barnstable unit was sent to the area of Sea Street Hyannis to make a random search of various neighborhoods.
Hyannis News was unable to confirm the name of the place where the robbery allegedly took place as Mashpee police officials were still trying to piece things together and were unavailable for comment. At approximately 11:30pm, according to a conversation with civilian police dispatcher Robin Hamblin, Mashpee Police was completely unprepared to confirm an actual "armed robbery" or crime location.
.
Meanwhile, Hyannis residents are left wondering whether there is, indeed, an actual armed robber at large within their local neighborhoods.
