MARSTONS MILLS – Alcohol may have been a factor in this late night accident just east of the intersection of Race Lane and Osterville West Barnstable Road.

Apparently Barnstable Police had just put out a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for the man operating the blue Chevy pickup truck after a family member notified dispatch concerned about the driver’s sobriety.

Shortly before 1am, the male driving the pickup lost control of the vehicle, flattened a road sign and struck a large tree, snapping it in half, the tree eventually coming to rest across Race Lane.

The first officer at the scene reported that the driver was semi-responsive, bleeding, with lacerations to the head.

Rescue workers carefully placed the stricken man on a stretcher and lifted him up out of the cold, further treating him in the back of an ambulance.  The extent of the man’s injuries is still uncertain; they were serious enough, however, for the patient to be transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
