HYANNIS- Sharp police work brings officers closer to nabbing car thieves.
At approximately 9:30pm a Barnstable Patrolman responded to an accident in a parking lot at the Airport Rotary.
The officer soon discovered that the black Mitsubishi Gallant involved in the accident was actually a stolen vehicle and that the operator had fled the scene prior to his arrival.
Up to this point police had no description of the suspects and no direction of travel.
But upon further investigation an alert officer found 2 ice-cold fountain drinks in containers that said “Wendy’s.” The stolen vehicle happened to be across the street and about 100 yards away from a nearby Wendy’s Restaurant located on Route 132.
Several officers quickly began investigating other evidence inside the vehicle while another officer discovered that the Wendy’s Restaurant on Route 132 has an advanced video surveillance system. Police were in luck, as they soon discovered they now were looking for two car thieves. They also now had clear images of the suspects. A Barnstable Police Detective arrived on scene to help process additional surveillance evidence.
The stolen vehicle was taken back to an indoor evidence processing bay at the Barnstable Police Facility.
