HYANNIS- At 9:41am Yarmouth Police Officers responded to a report of a violation of a protective order at the Cape Cod Child Development Center on Route 28 in West Yarmouth.

While responding to the call Yarmouth Officers Gordon Gibbons and Richard Fichter Jr. were further advised that the suspect had just left the scene in a gray Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Route 28.

Yarmouth Police Contacted Barnstable Police dispatch who immediately put out a B.O.L.O. including the plate number, vehicle description, and suspect’s description.

Within a few minutes Barnstable Police Chief Paul MacDonald radioed that the suspect’s vehicle was parked just outside of the Police Substation located on Main Street in Hyannis.

Several Barnstable Patrolmen responded and placed the suspect in custody inside of the substation.   Not long after the arrest, officers searched the vehicle and radioed for a supervisor.

Chief MacDonald, who happened to be much closer than any of his Sergeants, swiftly returned to the scene.

A search of the Tahoe resulted in the discovery of two handguns along with a bag of marijuana.

The suspect was transferred to the custody of the Yarmouth Police Department and booked at Yarmouth Police Headquarters.  After the completion of the booking process, he was transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment.

Mark A. Wheeler, age 46, of 1 Taylor Road in South Yarmouth was charged with violation of a Protective Order.

The Barnstable Police Department will likely file charges of illegal possession of the handguns and possession of Class D Marijuana.
