Bumbling Brothers Busted at White Hen

OSTERVILLE - You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to be a burglar, but these guys must be a bit off the IQ scale on the lower end of the spectrum.

Monday evening at about 9:30 PM, Barnstable Police responded to a report that there were two males in front of the White Hen Pantry on Route 28 attempting to sell items that were believed to be stolen. The suspicious acting "sales people" were trying to hawk their wares to people coming and going from the store.

Upon arrival, Barnstable Police discovered two brothers matching the description of the suspects. They were identified as Joshua Soares 26 and Jonathan Soares 24 both of 5 Blueberry Lane in Marstons Mills.

The entrepreneurial pair were allegedly offering to sell a Sony Digital Camera which happened to closely match the description of a camera recently stolen from a residence on Lakeside Drive. Another officer was investigating that particular break-in at just the same time. Radio communications between the various officers at both locations quickly established the similarities between the stolen merchandise and the items in the possession of the brothers at the White Hen Pantry.

This tended to make the officers even more suspicious. Upon closer examination of the merchandise, particularly the camera, police discovered pictures of the enterprising White Hen Pantry duo that appeared to show them posing in the living room of the home from which the items had been stolen.  Police also reportedly found a note in the home of the break-in that had Jonathan Soares name on it along with a couple of phone numbers.

Based on this rapidly mounting evidence, police arrested the Soares brothers and charged them with Breaking and Entering and larceny from a building. They were then transported to the Barnstable Police Facility but it doesn't end there!

Apparently Jonathan Soares did not enjoy the ride in the cruiser or perhaps he just wanted a little fresh air because he allegedly kicked out a window in the rear of the cruiser on the way to the station. This added an additional charge with wanton destruction of real or personal property.
