HYANNIS – This year as in the past 12 years tens of thousands of people, young and old descended on Main Street Hyannis for the 13th Annual Father’s Day Classic Car Show.
The car show is an all-volunteer effort organized by the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce and and co-sponsored by Horgan Insurance Agency and International Classic Auctions according to the Hyannis Chamber Web-site.
Barnstable Police estimate that approximately 50,000 people of all ages will attend this years show to examine hundreds of classic cars close up and personal. Over 350 brightly painted and fully restored classic cars participate in the event annually and space runs out weeks in advance. The event starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:30 PM.
The event requires that Main Street be closed to vehicle traffic from Ocean Street to Sea Street every year but attendees few seem to mind that.
The event is a great boon to businesses on Main Street and local businesses take advantage of the large crowd at their doorsteps. Cape Cod Inn and Duck Inn Pub for example was serving up BBQ Sausage and other delights in front of their business. Other were selling ice cream, t-shirts and other goodies.
If you have never attended one of these classic car shows please consider going next year. It is lots of fun for fathers and their whole families.
