Head-On Crash Results in Multiple Injuries

SOUTH YARMOUTH - At about 11:50 AM Yarmouth Police and Yarmouth Fire Rescue responded to the East end of Whites Path near North Dennis Road to an MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) reported by a passing Yarmouth Police Cruiser. Yarmouth Fire Rescue quickly requested that 2 additional ambulances including one from Dennis Fire Rescue also be dispatched to the accident.

Yarmouth Patrol Officer Brian Niezgoda told HyannisNews at the scene, that he was traveling along North Dennis Road when his attention was captured by a cloud of dust arising from a location about 200 feet west from his position down White's Path. He quickly determined that he had just seen a head-on crash between a black Dodge 4X4 Pickup Truck and a red Saturn Vue SUV take place.

Officer Niezgoda responded immediately. He swung his cruiser around and drove up to the scene immediately  calling for additional cruisers and requested dispatch to call Yarmouth Fire Rescue and Mid-Cape Towing for two vehicles.

Initial reports were that at least one person was injured with a likely broken arm probably in the Saturn SUV. Although the passenger riding in the pickup truck appeared to be not seriously injured, she was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation because of the seriousness of the impact of the crash. The persons in the red Saturn SUV were the more seriously injured, but the extent of their injuries were not immediately known. They were however, transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Fire Rescue.

Yarmouth Patrol Officer Raymond Scichilone who was off duty and driving his personal vehicle happened upon the scene and immediately rushed to provide first responder care for the injured parties.  It was reported that the accident involved a Dodge 4x4 Pickup truck and the SUV.  

It was not immediately determined which vehicle was at fault. Officer Niezgoda was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Gerald Britt and Patrol Officer Phil Magnuson. The crash remains under investigation by Yarmouth Police.
