Dennis Police arrested Weston Radway, 34 years of age, of 20 Longview Dr. Yarmouth charging him with a total of 22 counts involving the forgery, uttering and larceny of more than $3,600 worth of merchandise from the Mid-Cape Home Center locations in South Dennis and Hyannis over a two month period in February and March of this year.

Additionally Mr. Radway is being charged with nine counts of forgery and nine counts of larceny for the theft by false pretenses of more than $6,300 worth of merchandise from the South Dennis Mid-Cape Home Center store on nine separate occasions during the month of April.

The initial investigation began in mid-March when Dennis Police were contacted by the Mid-Cape Home Center personnel concerning the passing of a stolen check at their South Dennis Store.

Detective Patrick McCaffrey was assigned the investigation and learned that an alert clerk in the South Dennis store became suspicious of Mr. Radway’s purchasing of items using a check drawn on the account of a Falmouth couple and asked for his identification.  Mr. Radway told the clerk that he had left his identification in his vehicle and that he would retrieve it and return back to the store.  After several minutes the subject did not return to her counter and she alerted store security.  As a result security initiated an audit of purchases made using this account which resulted in identifying nine previous occasions that the account was used to purchase items at the Dennis and Hyannis stores during the months of February and March.

The items purchased during these incidents included hand and power tools, vacuums, lumber and other building material.

In the later incidents Dennis Police Detective Garvin Kelly began an investigation into the theft, by false pretenses, of appliances at the South Dennis Mid Cape Home Center store which occurred on April 9th and 11th.  In these incidents a subject, later identified as Mr. Radway, entered the South Dennis store and purchased several appliances using the store accounts of two contractors who do business with Mid Cape Home Center.

As a result of his investigation Det. Kelley learned that a total of nine incidents involving Mr. Radway impersonating legitimate contractors occurred at the South Dennis store during the month of April.

In addition to the appliances stolen during the April 9th and 11th incidents, Mr. Radway made off with power tools and building material.

None of the property has been recovered.

Dennis Police were assisted by Mashpee and Falmouth Police who were investigating related thefts which occurred in their communities.

The Dennis Police Department wishes to thank the regional and local news outlets for publicizing the April 9th and 11th incidents and descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle.  As a result of the media effort the Department received several tips which greatly assisted in Mr. Radway’s capture.

Mr. Radway will be arraigned this afternoon in Orleans District Court on the above charges and on an additional charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle after Suspension.  This is the result of a traffic stop conducted at approximately 7:00am this morning on Mayfair Rd. in South Dennis by Dennis Patrolmen Thomas Downes and David Tinelli.

(This Press release was prepared by Captain William M. Monahan of the Dennis Police.)
