(origional story posted 4/4/07):
CENTERVILLE- At 9:28pm Barnstable Police were dispatched to the Seven Eleven convenience store on Route 28 in Centerville to assist C.O.M.M. Rescue with a woman who somehow arrived there bleeding from severe lacerations.
Police quickly learned that she was a pestrian victim from a hit and run accident. Rescue workers treated and transported the woman to the Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Room where she is being treated and evaluated for traumatic injuries. (Emergency radio chatter mentioned that she may have been sent in for a CAT Scan sometime prior to midnight…) Hyannis News was able to reach a hospital spokesman who reported that the victim was currently listed in “stable” condition.
Investigators talked to witnesses at the Seven Eleven. A store clerk, who was not on duty while police were there, mentioned that investigators looked at store security video and possibly took some footage back with them as evidence.
Meanwhile, Barnstable Police Accident Reconstruction Expert Neil Gearin was setting up traffic cones around a section of roadway just over 100 yards west of the store at the intersection of Route 28 and West Main Street. A Barnstable Police Identification Officer was also called to the scene to take photos. Sergeant Steve McGuire arrived at the crime scene with evidence bags. Rain driven by brisk wind gusts intermittently pounded the road surface as investigators steadily and purposefully gathered evidence.
A Hyannis News Affiliate reported that there was radio chatter about the Hospital being on some type of “trauma alert” just prior to the victim’s transport.
Hyannis News will provide updates as they become available.
