POCASSET- Bourne Police have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for robbing a TD BankNorth on Barlow’s Landing Road at gunpoint last Thursday, February 22, 2007.
.
Yesterday, March 1, 2007, at approximately 5pm, Bourne Detective Sergeant Richard Silvestro and Detective John Doble arrested James Griffin, age 31, at his 44 Club House Drive home in Pocasset.
Last Thursday at approximately 6:45pm Griffin allegedly entered the bank pointing a silver and black handgun at employees. Bank surveillance photos clearly showed the suspect's features, and were of such good quality that police released them right away to the media. Hyannis News posted the photo in its “Most Wanted” section.
Many citizens were able to view these local media postings and subsequently contacted authorities identifying Griffin as the suspect, according to Lieutenant Richard Tavares of the Bourne Police Department.
Police Lieutenant Tavares is a firm believer in using the media to get important information out to the public, recognizing that in recent years law enforcement and media sources nationwide have successfully teamed up to capture a significant number of dangerous criminals.
In the past two months Bourne has been plagued with a total of 5 armed robberies. As a result, police have stepped-up marked and unmarked patrols around area gas stations, convenient stores, and other potential targets. Surprisingly all 5 of these robberies appear to have been random and unrelated.
Including yesterday’s arrest, Bourne Police have been credited with successfully capturing 2 separate suspects believed to be responsible for 2 of the 5 separate armed robberies.
James Griffin was held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. Griffin was scheduled to be arraigned today in Falmouth District Court.
