AVON – Yesterday morning, at about 10:41AM, a state trooper stopped a Toyota Solara after observing motor vehicle violations.
After an investigation and search of the vehicle, Trooper Joshua McKelligan located a loaded Glock .45 which was illegally possessed.
As soon as the the firearm was discovered the driver took of running to evade arrest.
Trooper McKelligan gave chase while other troopers and Avon Police quickly established a perimeter.
A State Police K-9 unit and helicopter also responded to assist.
The man was located inside the perimeter behind a residence and subsequently taken into custody.
A 31-year-old Taunton man was charged with the following offenses:
1. Possession of a firearm without FID card;
2. Carrying a dangerous weapon;
3. Possession of ammunition without FID card;
4. Failure to stop for police;
5. Send/read electronic message;
6. Marked lanes violation;
7. Resisting arrest.
The man is being held on $50,000 bail, pending arraignment in Stoughton District Court on Monday.
During the foot chase, Trooper McKelligan sustained a minor injury while pursuing through the woods.
