BOURNE CRASH: 61-year-old dead, 15-year-old airlifted with life-threatening injuries… troopers investigating…
BOURNE – Shortly after 4:00PM, troopers from the Bourne barracks rushed to a fatal rollover crash in the northbound lane of Route 28 just prior to the Bourne Bridge, according to a Massachusetts State Police press statement.
According to a preliminary investigation, Trooper Earl Johnson reports that a 2012 Freightliner truck was traveling northbound on Route 28 when it struck the rear of a 2014 Honda CR-V. A 2011 Acura MDX was also involved in the crash.
One of the occupants of the Honda, a 61-year-old female, was transported by Bourne EMS to Toby Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A second occupant of the Honda, a 15-year-old girl, was airlifted to a Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Three other occupants were transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 43-year-old Lynn man, was reportedly uninjured.
The identity of the deceased female is being withheld pending the notification of her family.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
Trooper Johnson’s investigation is being assisted by state police collision analysis and reconstruction experts, along with the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, D Troop CAT team, and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section.
The Bourne Fire Department and the Massachusetts DOT are also assisting investigators.
