HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – An unidentified man ran from Sears on foot… and then fled in a pickup truck… after allegedly stealing 6 to 7 pairs of jeans at about 5:00PM this afternoon, according to police radio transmissions.
As you will hear in the following dramatic HN Video, the suspect jumped behind the wheel of the pickup truck and led police on a pursuit down Route 132 toward the more congested neighborhoods near Main Street.
In an act of desperation, the driver jumped the curb at the intersection of Barnstable Road and Main Street, recklessly driving on a sidewalk the wrong way down Main Street toward Center Street, according to radio transmissions.
Then a Barnstable Police Sergeant jumps on the radio saying the fleeing desperado drove right toward her unmarked cruiser, nearly running her off the road!
She apparently discontinued the pursuit prior to the truck jumping the curb yet again, knocking down a sign and traffic light, before continuing on toward Cape Cod Hospital.
Police stopped at least one vehicle they believed may have been in the area to pick up the fleeing suspect and help him escape… but the stop was inconclusive.
Police later located the Chevy Silverado Pickup Truck abandoned behind a fenced-in parking area behind Cape Cod Hospital.
Check back for updates…
