COLD CASE SOLVED WITH PERSISTENCE & DNA: Centerville man charged with forcefully raping child…

The following is the actual BPD media statement:

On 7/1/2012 approximately 12:15 PM, Barnstable Police Patrol Officers and Detectives were dispatched to Hamblin’s Pond in Marstons Mills for a reported sexual assault/rape of a 13 year old girl.

The on-scene investigation revealed that the 13 year old girl was leaving the bath house at the pond when she was approached by a masked man. The suspect was armed with a knife and told the victim that he would kill her if she attempted to run or screamed.

The armed suspect subsequently forced the victim back into the bath house, held her against the wall, and sexually assaulted her.

Following the assault, the suspect fled the area.

The victim and a witness provided investigators with a description of the suspect.

BPD Detective Valerie Hemmila conducted an extensive follow up investigation. During that investigation, John Dias (age 23 of Centerville) was identified as a potential suspect involved in the assault.

DNA recovered from the victim was sent to the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab for testing along with a DNA sample from Dias.

On 12/16/16, DNA Testing Report came back confirming that the DNA recovered from the victim belonged to Dias.

On 01/16/17, Detective Hemmila along with members of the Barnstable Street Crime Unit set up surveillance on the residence of John Dias.

At approximately 1400 hrs, John Dias was seen exiting his residence at which time he was arrested. Dias was transported to the BPD and charged with the following charges:

1) Aggravated Rape of a Child with Force
2) Assault w/Intent to Rape a Child
3) Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
4) Indecent A&B on a Child
5) Intimidation of a Witness

John Dias is being held without bail pending his arraignment on January 17, 2017 in Barnstable First District Court.

When(and IF, in this state) he is convicted, he should be chemically castrated, physically castrated, branded with an “R” on his face. put in jail for 50 years and let all the other inmates know he has been convicted of child rape with force. He won’t last six months!

Jeez Phillip, you’re going a little easy on this inhuman piece of hot trash. He deserves everything you said, but if I had my way any pedo should be slowly butchered to death in the most horrifyingly painful way.

Look at the times of the crimes in both HN headline stories, both before 1:00pm while most of us are heading to our lunch break. He looks like a hard working guy, must have been on break from college or off that particular day! Soon enough we will be kissing the tourist buck goodbye as more and more of these stories surface. Lets just hope more and more section 8 comes our way here in Hyannis so we can drive what is left of the small businesses out of HYA!! I hope Hyannis News follows up with this story because I will be interested in how the courts handle this hard working gentleman!

I really dont understand why everyone makes everything about the color of your skin now a days. The poor girl was raped, they find the person accountable 6 years later, now she has to go through the rape all over again in court. Lock this douchebag up for life PERIOD. WTH does the color of hef skin have to do with this??

To had enough yet, are you seriously that rude & stupid to believe that every person that may be on section 8 is a criminal or lowlife ? Ever think that many elderly & disabled are on section 8 also, yes there probably are alot of people who may be bad news on section 8, but criminals come in every race , rich & poor. Stop being so dam rude .

The outrage should come from how long it took to confirm the DNA. Almost 5 years to complete the test, that’s some high grade BS.
