YARMOUTH POLICE ARREST SUBJECT FOR FALSE THREAT TO SCHOOL
Late Sunday night, December 17, 2017 the Yarmouth Police Department received information that a subject had made a threat last week through social media to commit violence at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
Members of the Yarmouth Police Department Detective Division—working closely with Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School administration and School Resource Police Officers—obtained a warrant for the arrest of the former D-Y student on Monday morning.
At approximately 2:00PM members of our Proactive Anti-Crime Unit tracked the subject down at the subject’s residence in Sandwich.
With the assistance of the Sandwich Police Department the subject was placed under arrest and subsequently transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.
The subject was processed and interviewed at Yarmouth Police Headquarters. The subject indicated the intent to alarm people and see how many students would stay out of school but had no intentions of carrying out the violence.
The subject was released from Yarmouth Police Department custody by the Bail Commissioner on personal recognizance after paying the $40 bail fee and is due for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court this morning.
This type of threat is considered a felony in Massachusetts with the potential punishment of incarceration in state prison for not less than 3 years nor more than 20 years or imprisonment in the house of correction for not less than 6 months nor more than 21/2 years, or by fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $50,000, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
The Yarmouth Police Department highly commends the person who came forward to report this incident and the professionalism and teamwork of everyone involved in the investigation.
