COPS: Violent drunken man strangled officer with chain… officer out with shoulder injury…
The following is the actual YPD press statement:
OFFICER INJURED DURING ARREST OF VIOLENT DRUNKEN MAN
On Friday, December 1st, 2017, at approximately 8:00 PM, YPD Communications dispatched Police Officers to 2 Constance Avenue in West Yarmouth for a report of an intoxicated male breaking things in the residence.
Yarmouth Polices Officers arrived and observed a male in the house through the large picture window throwing items around the front room and kitchen area.
While approaching the house from the left side, Officers [observed] a young boy [emerge] from the backyard on a cell phone. The young boy was barefoot and did not have a shirt on. The outside temperature at the time was approximately 45 degrees. The young boy stated that he had called 911 seeking help.
Police Officers went inside the home and found a male and female. As Officers attempted to speak with the two subjects, the male became irate and made several threats towards the Officers.
The male was found to be intoxicated from alcohol abuse and during the encounter quickly spun around, grabbed the chain of the neck badge and began trying to strangle an Officer while charging and pushing him backwards into the house.
Fellow Officers assisted the Officer as the male subject continued to resist and fight. Officers deployed a Taser device to stop the subject. He continued to fight and a Taser was used a second time which immediately gained the subjects compliance and his attack was overcome and he was placed into handcuffs.
The subject—identified as Cajun L. Burdick—was transported to YPD Headquarters and continued to be belligerent, rude, vulgar, and threatening during the transport and booking processes.
At the completion of the booking process, YPD filed an emergency 51A Neglect Report with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
One Police Officer sustained a shoulder injury and is unable to work facing potential surgery.
Bail was set at $3,040.00 and the subject was held in Yarmouth Police Custody and was transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment today.
