Updated: “Shots fired… send rescue!” [Video]
Barnstable Police Press release:
During the month of October 2013, members of the Barnstable Police Department Narcotics Unit have been conducting an oxycodone distribution investigation involving Scott Jean, age 34, of Marstons Mills.
During the investigation, detectives learned that JEAN was traveling to the Boston area to purchase large quantities of oxycodone.
The oxycodone was then brought back to the Cape to be sold.
JEAN is well known to the BPD Narcotics Unit from a past investigation. That investigation resulted in JEAN being indicted in Barnstable Superior Court for Trafficking a Class B substance/oxycodone.
That case remains open.
Pursuant to the investigation, on 10/29/2013, members of the BPD Narcotics Unit attempted to stop JEAN’S Nissan pickup truck in the area Rte. 149/Rte. 6 after following him to and from meeting with his oxycodone supplier in Everett.
JEAN refused to stop and struck two Barnstable Police Department vehicles. In his attempt to flee, JEAN nearly ran over two BPD Detectives. He fled the area at a high rate of speed south on Rte. 149.
A short while later JEAN’s vehicle was observed traveling north on Old Stage Rd in Centerville.
A second motor vehicle stop was attempted by members of the Barnstable Police Department.
Initially, JEAN pulled to the side of the road and stopped in the area of Rolling Hitch Drive, Centerville.
JEAN waited until Detectives exited their vehicles and began to approach his truck before attempting to flee a second time.
JEAN then struck another police vehicle and began to drive at a Detective who was on foot.
JEAN’S reckless demeanor put several officers’ lives in danger.
A Barnstable Police Department Detective discharged one round from his firearm striking JEAN in the arm.
JEAN was transported to Cape Cod Hospital and subsequently transferred to a Boston area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Due to his medical condition JEAN was not charged at this time. JEAN will be facing numerous assault, motor vehicle, and drug charges.

Unofficial reports say the driver of the Nissan tried to back into an officer when plainclothes officers driving unmarked vehicles tried to box him in.
Unofficial sources say he was shot in the arm and there was some talk about deploying a MedFlight helicopter… it is still uncertain if MedFlight was actually needed…
