DOG ATTACK: 61-year-old woman on the ground while being actively attacked… immediately airlifted with severe injuries…

BARNSTABLE – As you’ll see and hear in the following video, police and rescue rushed to a home after a woman was reportedly outside and down on the ground being attacked by a dog.

At about 11:30AM, Barnstable Police and Barnstable FD rushed to 93 Deacon Court.

An American Bulldog owned by the victim’s son was attacking the 61-year-old woman (Emergency radio chatter initially said the woman was 62-years-old… there also was some initial confusion about the number of dogs actually involved in the attack..).

According to one source, the dog was called “Thor.” (Yet to be confirmed by officials…)

Romona Bouvier was airlifted from the Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary School to a Rhode Island Trauma Hospital, Barnstable Police say.

Bouvier’s injuries were described as “severe” and she was referred to being a “priority one” patient by medics. She suffered injuries to her right arm and left leg, so bad that Barnstable Patrolman Michael Puntonio needed to tie the leg off with a tourniquet…

But the patient was stable enough to fly and was expected to be heading into surgery at the time of this report.

Barnstable Patrolwoman Danielle St. Peter was the first officer at the scene. She’s the initial voice in the following video, reporting when the scene was secure for rescue to approach…

Bouvier had reportedly taken the bulldog and another dog out to play when the attack suddenly occurred.

Barnstable Animal Control eventually took custody of the bulldog…

The following video highlights the scene and airlift. It also contains police and fire emergency radio transmissions…
