HIGH SPEED CHASE STARTS IN COTUIT, ENDS IN MIDDLEBORO… [NEW VIDEO AND DETAILS]

UPDATE: The following is the actual Massachusetts State Police press statement and updated HN video…

On February 20, 2017 at about 9:30 a.m., Barnstable Police attempted to stop a 2017 Hyundai Sonata in their town. The operator refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit continued on local roads and highways from Cape Cod to Middleborough, including Route 6, Route 3, Route 44, Route 105, Route 28, and Route 495. Several local police departments were involved in the pursuit, including Barnstable, Sandwich, Plymouth, Carver, Lakeville, and Middleborough, with Massachusetts State Police cruisers maintaining a secondary, supporting role. A helicopter and flight crew from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing was particularly instrumental in maintaining visual contact with the fleeing suspect.

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle drove at an extremely high rate of speed and contrary to traffic, on Route 44 in Plymouth and Route 495 in Middleborough. Two Sandwich Police cruisers were damaged when they maneuvered to avoid being struck by the fleeing vehicle.

The vehicle eventually stopped on the ramp from Route 44 West to Route 495 North after striking two local police cruisers, one from Lakeville and one from Middleborough.
The operator, Cary Guy, a 24-year-old Dighton man, was placed under arrest by State Police and booked at the Middleborough Barracks on the following charges:

1. Failure to Stop for a Police Officer
2. Operating to Endanger
3. Operating after License Revocation
3. Speeding
Additional charges will likely be forthcoming from local departments.

The operator was held without bail pending his arraignment in Wareham District Court tomorrow.

There were no injuries to any parties as a result of this pursuit.

The following video contains Massachusetts State Police footage of the chase and arrest, HN footage at the scene of the arrest, and it also has some of the state police radio transmissions (not in sequences with footage, but exemplifies police scrambling to locate suspect…) troopers picked up the chase in the Sandwich area on the Cape Cod side of the Sagamore Bridge:

Initial HN coverage:

MIDDLEBORO – [DEVELOPING] – The following video highlights the end of a high speed pursuit which started in Cotuit and ended in Middleboro.

It started off as a routine traffic stop for what was said to be an unlicensed driver…

Speeds reached over 100MPH…

The fleeing vehicle struck a Sandwich police cruiser before crossing the Sagamore Bridge onto Route 3 North… another cruiser was run off the road at some point on the Cape side of the bridge…

Multiple cruisers from various towns joined in the pursuit…

The chase went from Cotuit, through Mashpee, into Sandwich, over the bridge into Plymouth Center, into Carver center, onto Rte 44, onto 495 the wrong way, back into Middleboro….

It’s important to note that each police agency had to break off the pursuit at one point or another due to the high reckless speeds…

Lives were at risk!

The driver was driving like a madman, crossing the yellow line, driving up onto curbs…

A Massachusetts State Police helicopter became involved, which allowed cruisers to safely back off for a little while…

At one point the vehicle was driving the wrong way on Route 495… and that’s when the state police cruisers were ordered to reengage in the pursuit… this man had to be stopped!

The suspect is in custody without further incident, according to sources at the scene of the stop… [DEVELOPING]
