WEST BARNSTABLE – Sandwich and Barnstable first responders rushed toward the town line on Route 6A last evening after receiving reports that a truck veered off the roadway before slamming into a utility pole supporting high tension power lines.
At about 8:45PM, it was determined the accident was actually on West Barnstable side of Route 6A.
The driver was transported to CCH by a Sandwich Rescue ambulance. His condition is unknown at the time of this report.
The Toyota Tundra slammed head on into the utility pole, snapping it about 15 feet from the ground. The high tension power lines above were still intact, but the pole was completely snapped and being held upright by the wires themselves.
An Eversource truck was on scene when HN arrived, and the power needed to be “secured” in order to remove the vehicle… As of 11:23PM (nearly 3 hours after the crash), the vehicle still had not been removed.
Power crews are expected to be on scene the entire evening replacing the pole and Route 6A is expected to be completely shut down between High Street and Howland Lane.
The following video highlights the hazardous scene.
