SAGAMORE – One occupant walked away after refusing rescue, while a second occupant needed to be transported to hospital after a single car crash just prior to the Sagamore Bridge on Route 6 westbound early this morning at about 12:19AM.

The black SUV was heavily damaged after reportedly striking a guardrail. It’s uncertain whether it had rolled over, but it’s a possibility judging from damage along the roof of the vehicle.

The accident was at dangerous spot along the highway, where cars come flying around a bend, making their final descent toward the base of the Sagamore Bridge. A single state trooper did his best to slow traffic and keep everyone safe while firefighters and a tow truck driver did their hazardous job…

… a job which can turn deadly in the blink of an eye.
