CENTERVILLE – [DEVELOPING] — Barnstable Police are investigating an accident where a young man was struck by a pickup truck earlier this evening at about 8:12PM.
The accident happened on Old Stage Road right in front of Antico Lane.
According to sources, the patient was reportedly unconscious at first, but did regain some alertness before being transported by ambulance to South Shore Hospital (according to radio transmissions).
COMM Rescue workers opted to transport by ambulance because the nearest available Medflight helicopter was flying out of Lawrence… and it would be faster to travel directly by ambulance… (according to emergency radio traffic).
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but a friend of the driver said she was told the pedestrian suddenly walked into the roadway… that information has not been officially confirmed.
