HYANNIS – Barnstable police are investigating why a driver took off after crashing into a utility pole.

Monday, in the early morning hours, a Saturn VUE jumped the curb and struck a utility police after traveling the wrong direction on Pine Ave.

The driver took off before police arrived.

Police briefly detained a man while investigating. The man only spoke Spanish and later told HN he was originally from Ecuador. The man also professed he didn’t really know the driver too well… and had only met him a couple of times prior to the early morning incident.

Something needs to be done about these cars that mysterioualy jump into utility poles. Could be some unexplained paranormal phenomena which also causes the driver to flee in panic.
