Miniature Schnauzer rescued from Sandwich house fire… [VIDEO]
SANDWICH – A person walking by heard a fire alarm and noticed smoke bellowing from the rooftop … and immediately called 911, and it’s a good thing because there was a dog trapped inside all by itself.
Sandwich Police officers were the first to arrive, seeing the smoke and flames inside the home at 24 Kensington Drive this afternoon.
Firefighters from Sandwich and surrounding towns responded to the scene, knocking down the flames and checking for extension.
The dog, a 7-year-old Miniature Schnauzer named Bailey was safely rescued from the house by police and firefighters… and was said to be in the care of a neighbor.
It was a busy scene, requiring multiple resources, including the Red Cross and power company; electricity to the residence needed to be shut off…
The cause of the fire and amount of damage was unknown at the time of this report. Sandwich Fire Department is investigating.
The following video highlights the entire scene. It begins with the arrival of the dog’s owner. She was obviously upset about the situation. It also includes audio from Sandwich Police Officer Lauren Gilrein who was very helpful addressing the one question which was on everyone’s mind, “is the dog alright?”
