COTUIT – This was the tragic scene today near Loop Beach…

A middle-aged woman reportedly was last known to have went to the beach to watch the sunrise. When her unlocked vehicle was discovered at the Loop Beach parking area with her cell phone still inside, it set off an intensive search of the area involving the Barnstable Police, their drone and K-9 units, Cotuit Fire and Rescue, a Coast Guard boat and helicopter, a state police helicopter was also deployed and en-route… a local dive team was also ramping up…

… then at about 12 noon, Barnstable Detective Kevin Connolly, operating a police drone, observed an “object” under the water about 50 feet from the shoreline.

The “object,” sadly, turned out to be the body of the missing woman.

The woman’s husband was about a quarter mile down the beach where her vehicle was found when police learned the tragic news.

Massachusetts State Police detectives are investigating the scene…

The following video highlights the scene moments after the woman was removed from the water.
