UPDATE 8/11/07: Hyannis News has learned that Barnstable Police are looking for a probable suspect and will be making an arrest very soon. The suspect is in his early twenties.
.
HYANNIS- At approximately 7:15pm Barnstable Police responded to the Cumberland Farms located on West Main Street next to the Golden Fountain Restaurant for what they originally thought was an armed robbery involving a knife.
Upon further investigation officers began to call the incident an Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon- a Knife.
Apparently the victim was waiting in line when a man angrily slammed a pack of baking soda down on the counter and tried to bully him into paying for it. When the victim refused, an argument developed… the aggressive man with the baking soda then suddenly pulled a knife and threatened “You want a piece of me!”
The victim still refused to pay for the other man’s baking soda and the man with the knife fled the store.
Nobody was injured, but the suspect who reportedly pulled the knife fled the store in 1994 Green Cadillac.
He is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing black baggy pants. He was accompanied by other black males in the Cadillac.
Police have a suspect in mind and are examining store video tapes to make a positive identification.
Barnstable Detectives and Barnstable County Identification Officers were called to the scene. The incident remains under investigation by Officers John Campbell and Troy Perry along with other members of the Barnstable Police.
