HYANNIS- At approximately 2:30am Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue responded to a single car accident on Ocean street just south of South Street.
A young woman in her twenties was just returning home from a night of drinking at local bars and elsewhere, when she struck a telephone poll, breaking it into pieces, and taking down power and phone lines.
When Hyannis News arrived on the scene the young woman was up walking around, but she did later decide to be transported to the Cape Cod Hospital emergency room for further evaluation.
The woman will be summoned to court on charges of Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol. The woman apparently admitted being drunk.
The accident is under investigation by Barnstable Police Officer Brendan Burchill.
Police Detail Officers needed to be called in to direct traffic away from wires strung across the road. Ocean Street was finally reopened at approximately 7:15am.
