SOUTH YARMOUTH- On Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 1:30AM—the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to the Visions Center at 225 Station Avenue regarding a home invasion and domestic attack.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers David Schneeweis—Scott Lundegren—Christopher Van Ness—and Christopher Kent arrived at the scene and determined that a man had broken through the front window and door of an apartment—attacked his ex-girlfriend and threatened to smash her face and eyes with a fire extinguisher—and fled in an unknown direction.

The woman was suffering from non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.  The couple’s 1-year-old child—who was present at the scene and being held by the woman during the attack—was not injured.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers—including K9 Patrol Officer Marc Thibeault and his partner Clarke—conducted a search of the immediate area with negative results.  Crime Scene Investigator William Jacques of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department assisted in crime scene photography and evidence collection.

Within a short period, Patrol Officers Lundegren and Schneeweis were able to develop information about the suspect and his possibility that he had fled to New Bedford in a silver sedan.  The Yarmouth Police Department contacted the New Bedford Police Department and the suspect was located at a residence in New Bedford by members of the New Bedford Police Department and placed under arrest.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Lundegren and Kent traveled to New Bedford this morning and brought the suspect back to Yarmouth.  He is currently being processed at Yarmouth Police Headquarters and will be transported to the Barnstable District Court later this morning for arraignment.
