VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 5, 2007 (Zenit).- Benedict XVI recalled the 10th anniversary of the death of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta and used the occasion to invite the faithful to care for the poor.

The Pope mentioned the anniversary today at the end of the general audience in St. Peter's Square, and greeted a group of Missionaries of Charity, the group founded by Mother Teresa.

"Dear friends," the Holy Father said, "the life and testimony of this authentic disciple of Christ, whose liturgical memorial we celebrate today, are an invitation for you and for all the Church to always faithfully serve God in the poor and needy."

"Continue following her example and be instruments of divine mercy in every setting," the Pontiff encouraged.

At the end of the audience, Father Brian Kolodiejchuk, postulator of the cause of canonization of Mother Teresa, presented to the Holy Father a copy of "Come Be My Light." The book is a compilation of Mother Teresa's private letters, edited by Father Kolodiejchuk.
