On Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:26 PM—the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to 34 Reid Avenue in West Yarmouth for a report a shooting.
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Raymond A. Scichilone—David S. Dickey—Cheryl Nugent Gomsey—Michael Zontini—John Dimitres— and Patrol Sergeant Walter R. Warren, Jr. arrived at the scene and found an 18-year-old male suffering from a single gun shot wound in his left leg. Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers conducted a protective sweep of the home and secured the interior and outer perimeters.
A protected crime scene was established and additional assistance from the Yarmouth Police Detective Division—the Yarmouth Police K9 Unit—and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit were called in.
Several persons in the home at the time of the shooting were interviewed at the scene and at Yarmouth Police Headquarters.
The 18-year-old victim is currently at Cape Cod Hospital recovering from the non-life threatening wound.
The initial inquiry indicates that the shooting may have occurred accidentally with an illegally possessed firearm.

Police Arrest 16-Year-Old Suspect
Late this afternoon, the Yarmouth Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for a 16-year-old male. Yarmouth Police notified the suspect’s family and the suspect turned himself in to Yarmouth Police Officers at Yarmouth Police Headquarters. He will be held in a secure facility and scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Juvenile Court on Monday, September 10, 2007.
