(Phone Message Caught on Tape?) Say It’s Not So! Did State Representative Demetrius Atsalis Anonymously Call Church Soup Kitchen?

By News Desk on 27 October, 2007 16:50:00

image

Local “bloggers” are accusing State Representative Demetrius Atsalis of calling a local soup kitchen and Baptist church and leaving an anonymous phone message regarding political lawn signs.  Some bloggers are suggesting that Mr. Atsalis targeted the soup kitchen in order to send a message to Janet Joakim's political foes who have recently supported the local church.  Janet Joakim is a cousin of Representive Atsalis by marriage. (See link to "COG" blog posting at the bottom of this page.)

Was this actually Atsalis that made the call?  (Some claim that he admitted making the call)

Was he attempting to “coerce” this particular religious non-profit with his concerns?  (Certain bloggers are alleging that his call was a deliberate political tactic directed at opponents of Janet Joakim, his cousin by marriage.)

What would he gain from such an action if it actually was him that made the call?

Do other churches in the area post political signs?

Does the local Greek Church in Centerville ever post campaign signs?

Would the Greek Church in Centerville not need to worry about political signs since it is also a place where people have gone to vote in the past?

Hyannis News is just learning about this alleged phone message and would like to know your thoughts on the subject.

  • IMHO, Atsalis is an arrogant and elitist POS; and this little muscle-flexing action on his part serves as an excellent example of such! This forum should be commended for publishing this story; for IMO it portrays him far differently than all those drive-by media photos of a smiling young native family man. Keep up the good work Hyannis News; and I urge Barnstable voters to remember this little incident the next time you see the name Atsalis on a ballot. Sparky

They dont give a crap about anyone but themselves, this is why America is in the shape it is! Power to the people, not some rich kid who abuses his power that was given to him from the people!

  • One of the poor bad boyz, with his 12-year-old IQ, career-criminal history, and junkie habit, that utilizes that soup-kitchen hates Baptists...he likes the free food, but hates them....maybe he was the one who spray-painted their church with the hate graffiti. They feed junkies and crazy people. Good for them, is appreciated by the locals. Local crazy, isolated Cape Cod politics are not worth getting embroiled in, it's just all repetitive bitterness and hatred down here against those that have and those that have not.
