On Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 1:40 AM Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Scott Lundegren observed a 1996 Volvo traveling north on Highbank Road in South Yarmouth at a high rate of speed.  A speed check by radar indicated the vehicle was traveling 53 miles per hour in a posted 35 miles per hour zone.  The vehicle was also operating erratically as it drifted back and forth and across the marked centerline and the fog line.

A check of the vehicle registration by using the onboard cruiser computer indicated that the registered owner had an expired drivers license.  A stop of the vehicle was conducted and the operator was determined to have an expired license and exhibited signs of intoxication.

With back up protection provided by Patrol Officer Melissa Alden—a series of six standardized field sobriety tests were administered that verified intoxication and impairment and the operator was placed under arrest.  His vehicle was impounded and he was transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters.  After completing the booking process, the bail commissioner set bail at $2,500 cash and he was held overnight.   He is scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court this morning.
