HYANNIS-  This morning at approximately 12:15am, a faint odor of smoke was detected in a hallway at the Holiday Inn on Route 132.  When the first firefighters arrived there was a very faint smoke odor, almost like paper burning.  To be on the safe side, Hyannis Firefighters activated the fire alarm in order to alert hotel guests.  Most guests waited in the lobby, others waited outside in the 20 degree temperatures, some only in pajamas… most were heading back to their rooms after about 30 minutes.

Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters remained on scene for just about an hour, insuring it was safe before declaring the call “unfounded.”

Hyannis Fire Department made plans to keep an eye on the building throughout the night.
