CENTERVILLE- At approximately 1:10am this morning Barnstable Police and Centerville/Osterville/Marstons Mills Firefighters raced to the scene where a Jeep that had veered off Route 28 at the intersection of Harrison Road, rolled over, and burst into flames.

Shortly after First Responders arrived it was learned that the two passengers inside the vehicle had died on scene.

The identities of the victims are still uncertain, as the accident is still under investigation.  Police and Fire Officials were unable provide additional information at this time.

There were many neighborhood residents watching the scene unfold and officials set up a makeshift barricade to prevent onlookers as the bodies were removed from the vehicle.

Route 28 was shut down from both directions, and the scene was cordoned off using police line "Do Not Cross" tape.

Throughout the night firefighters continually sprayed the Jeep with water to prevent it from reigniting and to allow it to be cool enough for investigators to do their work.

Barnstable Police Accident Reconstruction Expert Patrolman Brian Murray was summoned, where he and others began an intensive investigation.  “Drag Tests,” and other factors were considered to determine speed, direction, and pertinent circumstances.

A Barnstable County Investigation Officer was also on hand taking photos and working on the investigation.

A duty wrecker used a cable and winch to pull the Jeep out of a steep gully.  A hydraulic hose burst on the flatbed tow truck.  But wrecker operators still managed to lift the vehicle onto the flatbed using the cable and winch system from another truck.

The entire scene took over three hours to investigate and cleanup.  At approximately 4:40am all emergency vehicles were clear of the scene.
