Morning Update:  It turns out that NSTAR workers were still working up until 8:00am this morning.  Barnstable Police Sergeant Twomey confirmed that the vehicle caught on fire briefly.  The suspects that fled scene have not been captured yet and the incident is still under investigation.

Last Night's Breaking Story:

HYANNIS- Two suspects fled on foot when the car they were in snapped a telephone poll and closed down Route 28 from Pitchers Way all the way to Strawberry Hill Road for most of the night.

The one car accident happened at approximately 8:45pm last night at the intersection of Route 28 and Lincoln Road Extension.  NSTAR workers were still on scene at 3:00am this morning trying to repair the poll and effected wires prior to the morning commute.

The vehicle took a heavy impact and at least one airbag was visibly deployed.  It is still uncertain as to why the occupants fled and whether or not they sustained injuries.

Barnstable notified Cape Cod Hospital to be on the lookout for suspicious injuries.

Barnstable Police Sergeant Kevin Tynan said that the vehicle had not been reported stolen.

Police have a description of a black male that was reportedly one of the fleeing suspects.

Hyannis Firefighters needed to turn the hoses on the vehicle and a witness informed that the vehicle had caught on fire briefly.  Firefighters also needed to clean the roadway of fluid leakage and debris.
