CENTERVILLE- Three patients were transported to Cape Cod Hospital after a two car collision at the intersection of Route 28 and Phinney’s Lane.

The call was dispatched to Barnstable police cruisers at approximately 7:00pm tonight.  Traffic was diverted around the intersection and Route 28 was filled with at least 3 ambulances, some fire trucks, and many police units.  Traffic was slowed to intermittent travel in all directions for just over half an hour.

The collision was strong enough to cause airbag deployment in both vehicles and made extraction of at least two patients rather difficult.  Firefighters needed to use the Jaws of Life to pry the door off the smaller of the two vehicles, the operator in that vehicle needed to be carefully lifted out using a back board and other stabilizing devices.

Both vehicles needed to be removed by duty wreckers, and both firefighters and wrecker personnel joined forces to remove debris and fluids from the roadway...
