HYANNIS WEST END- As the temperatures warm up and people begin to get out and about, local homeless individuals take to the woods.
This morning Barnstable Police Chief Paul MacDonald and several Hyannis units showed up in the West End to nip an ongoing situation in the bud. Residents in this Hyannis neighborhood have long been concerned about homeless individuals setting up camps and engaging in illegal activities.
Over the past year police have stepped-up patrols and visibility in the area, and that has made a significant difference in related crimes. Today, Hyannis News was encouraged to see daytime patrols continuing to deal with the situation.
The West End of Hyannis is on a comeback with many construction projects and improvements. A vacant lot adjacent to conservation land, marked as town owned “open space,” is also scheduled to receive a new pumping station and landscaping improvements.
In a conversation with a father whose home neighbors the wooded area located across the street from the closed “Hyport Brewing Company,” Hyannis News learned that local residents will have zero tolerance for illegal homeless activity in this particular part of town. The father went on to comment that his young children do not need to hear the bad language, nor be exposed to the dangers of having vagrants drinking and doing drugs so close to his property.
