HYANNIS- Speed may have been a factor as a Ford Ranger struck a brand new Toyota Solara convertible and rolled over at the densely populated intersection of Suffolk and Bristol Avenues.

The woman in the Ford pickup was not injured, but appeared very shaken and emotional as she went from person to person offering hugs, speaking with a very thick foreign accent.  She even went to the family in the Solara to reach out and  offer an embrace.

The operator of the Solara was very disappointed that she would now need to repair the front end of the new convertible which she hardly had the opportunity to drive.  The family in the Toyota Solara was quiet as they patiently awaited the tow truck and accident information from police.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the woman driving the Ford allegedly ran through a stop sign at a high rate of speed.  It’s a miracle no one was seriously injured as kids were out playing in the street in an area where high speeds are not expected.

One person at the scene overheard that the woman with the thick accent possibly did not have a license to operate a motor vehicle. Hyannis News attempted to confirm that information with the investigating officer, but he was busy back out on patrol…

Barnstable Patrolman Eric Drifmeyer is investigating the collision and it’s still uncertain whether anyone will be charged with motor vehicle violations.

Children and parents surrounded the bizarre scene out of curiosity and concerns about neighborhood safety.  One father heard the crash and rushed to the aid of the woman driving the Ford Ranger.  He was surprised that such an event could happen in such a populated area.  He was also very surprised there were no injuries.

Hyannis Fire Fighters were also called to the scene to ensure that both vehicles were safe for removal.
