WEST YARMOUTH- On Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 5:15pm the Yarmouth Police Department responded to the Econolodge Motel on Route 28 for a report of distraught man in the parking lot.
Yarmouth Officers Cheryl Nugent Gomsey and Mary Gibney arrived at the scene and met with an intoxicated man in the parking lot with fresh blood on his hands. The man told the officers that another person in a room was trying to kill him and that the person was armed with a knife.
Officers located the other person in room 134 and discovered that the person had fresh wounds in the facial area and was bleeding profusely. Officer Bradley J. Donahue arrived and located a knife in the room and secured it as evidence.
Detective Russell Giammarco conducted a follow-up investigation that indicated that the man who was located in the parking lot had attacked and tried to sexually assault the person in the room.
The man was arrested and taken to Yarmouth Police Headquarters. He was held overnight and transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment this morning. Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigator John Szucs was contacted and provided crime scene services.
The victim was treated by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department and subsequently transported to Cape Cod Hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
The Arrested Person was John A. Dixon, age 41 of 85 Route 28, West Yarmouth, MA. He was charged with Felony Assault and Battery Causing Serious Injuries, Felony Assault to Rape, and Felony Indecent Assault on a Person Over Age 14.
