NEWS BRIEF: 19 Year Old Hospitalized After Quarrel with Grandfather

CENTERVILLE- Multiple Barnstable Police units arrived at a residence on Shaffer Road for an out of control 19 year old man arguing with his grandfather.

While responding, officers learned that the subject had a history of violence and had been making threats that he would harm police.

Reportedly the man attempted to climb out a rear window, but was later cornered in the basement of the home.

Radio transmissions made all officers aware that he was armed with a “Butterfly Knife” as he attempted to evade police in the cellar.

After a brief radio silence a C.O.M.M. rescue unit was summoned to the scene.

The incident also drew Road Supervisor Sergeant Ben Baxter and Shift Commander Lieutenant William Packer to the scene.

Hyannis News arrived just as rescue was preparing to transport the 19 year old combatant to Cape Cod Hospital.  Patrolman Carl Hill road along inside the ambulance in order to keep things under control…

A Barnstable Patrolman at the scene assured Hyannis News that all officers were safe and sound.

After a brief observation period inside of the hospital emergency room, police felt the situation was secure enough to turn the individual over to hospital security.
