Motorcycle Shop Owner Seriously Injured

HYANNIS: At approximately 4:00 PM - Barnstable Police and Barnstable Fire Rescue units responded to a motorcycle versus pickup truck accident initially reported to be at the corner of Thornton Avenue and Communications Way in Independence Park.  

HyannisNews Publisher Rob Bastille was there and spoke to several witnesses at the scene shortly after the accident happened. He was told that a Chevrolet pickup truck was at the bottom of Thornton Drive in front of Hyannis Collision. At the same time a Ninja type motorcycle came down the hill and collided with the pickup truck.  

Friends of the motorcycle operator identified him as John Nakutis the owner of Nakutis Choppers of 73 Thornton Drive in Hyannis. His family members know of the accident. Nakutis who is reported to be in his 40s is a highly respected businessman who is an advocate of Motorcycle safety. He has been building and repairing motorcycles for over 20 years.

This was described as a freak accident. He was surrounded by friends and family at the scene.  One of the first persons to arrive at the scene was a retired Barnstable Police Officer who helped treat and stabilize the victim who was breathing on his own after the crash. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Barnstable Fire Rescue.
