Housing Authority Buiding Condemned After Crash

EAST DENNIS- At approximately 11:58am Thursday May 17, 2007 Dennis Police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a motor vehicle crash at (Melpet Farms) 812 Route 134. Upon arrival officers discovered that a 1998 Subaru Legacy Station Wagon had driven into the lower level of a two story apartment building located on the property. 

The investigation revealed that the operator, Margaret English (66 years of age) a resident of a second floor apartment located in the building, was attempting to park her vehicle in a parking space at the front of the building when the vehicle accelerated forward over curbing and then entering fully into the building. 

The apartment was vacant and undergoing renovations at the time of the crash. 

Neither Ms. English or the tenant of adjacent first floor apartment were injured in the crash. 

crashThe building was condemned as structurally unsafe by the Building Commissioner as a result of the crash. 

The building is owned by the Town but is leased to the Dennis Housing Authority.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
