WEST BARNSTABLE- A Sandwich Police Sergeant was transported to the hospital to have a knee injury evaluated after catching up to and “paralleling” a woman driving the wrong way on the westbound side of the Mid-Cape Highway shortly after 1:00am.  A Sandwich Police SUV-type unit was struck by the green mini-van just before it finally came to a stop in the passing lane while still facing in the wrong direction near exit 4.

.

Two motorists reported they felt lucky to be alive, as they narrowly escaped going head-on with the wayward vehicle.

.

Sandwich Police were requested by State Police to assist in stopping the vehicle, after Troopers received multiple cell phone calls from as far away as Plymouth.  Barnstable Police also responded as the incident crossed over into their town.

.

Trooper Peterson arrested and handcuffed the woman, placing her in a Massachusetts State Police cruiser for transport back to the South Yarmouth Barracks for booking (below photo).

.

Gina Flohr, age 40 from Plymouth, is being charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Operating to Endanger, Refusing to Stop for a Police Officer, Wrong Way on a Highway, and possibly other motor vehicle violations

.

UPDATE: At 3:25am a Sandwich Police representative told Hyannis News the injured Sergeant had already been treated and released from the hospital and was doing okay.
