HYANNIS- Early Sunday morning Barnstable Police were dispatched to a residential home for the elderly to help find a woman who had just walked away and was missing.
.
Police originally thought she went off walking down the street and were trying to determine the time frame since her disappearance to estimate how far when Officer Dan Ruth had a gut feeling she may be somewhere much closer.
He asked one of caretakers if she would possibly enter the woods to the rear of the residence and found out that it was unlikely, but possible.
Officer Ruth went to the rear of the residence and heard noises in a thickly vegetated wooded area. Upon closer inspection he was able to hear the woman’s voice calling out to him.
Officer Ruth entered the thicket and discovered that she had fallen and cut her legs pretty badly. Due to the severity of her lacerations, Officer Ruth decided to stay with her and call in rescue instead of risking trying to help her out of the area by himself.
Hyannis Rescue was summoned to the scene in order to safely extract the senior from the thicket and render first aid.
The woman was carried out of the area in a special sling type stretcher and placed in an ambulance. She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
