YARMOUTH PORT – Shortly after 9:00 PM on Friday evening, Yarmouth Police and Fire Rescue responded to a report of a crash on Route 6A. The scene of the crash was slightly east of Yarmouth Fire Station No. 2.
Upon arrival, HyannisNews observed a dark gray, late model, Mazda 3 sedan pointed in an easterly direction, on a front lawn of a home on the westbound side of the highway. It would appear that the Mazda was traveling east and crossed into the westbound lane before it hit the tree.
A witness at the scene said that they believed that the accident occured when a car was attempting to overtake another car. It was not clear if the car that was attempting to pass was the car that hit the tree or if the Mazda hit the tree trying to avoid a head on with a car attempting to pass.
Fire Rescue treated and transported a female victim of the accident. The woman was sitting up in the car, was conscious, and appeared to be responding to rescue personnel before she was placed on a stretcher. Her injuries did not appear to be serious in nature. No other information was immediately available at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by Yarmouth Patrol Officer Michael Kramer. The vehicle was removed by a Bass River Auto Wrecker.
