UPDATED 6.50 PM

SOUTH YARMOUTH; At about 2:30 PM Sunday afternoon, the infamous intersection of Winslow Grey Road and Forest Road was the scene of a major crash involving 3 cars and resulting in 8 persons injured. Many of the victims were seriously injured enough to be transported to Cape Cod Hospital. This intersection has been the scene of many accidents over the years.

Yarmouth Fire Rescue and Yarmouth Police Resources were stretched to the limit and additional ambulances were brought in from both Dennis and Hyannis to treat and transport the injured.  Although this was a serious accident with multiple injuries Officers at the scene were able to keep traffic moving safely past the wrecked vehicles. It did not appear that any of the injuries were life threatening.

When HyannisNews arrived at the scene, there was a Massachusetts registered blue-green Plymouth Voyager with its right front end up against a Rhode Island registered silver Buick Lucerne GXS. The impact by the van caused extensive damage to the drivers side door of the Buick Lucerne.

The Buick Lucerne in turn was nosed into the drivers side door of an Oldsmobile 88. It appeared that possibly the Voyager struck the Buick and that caused the Buick to hit the Oldsmobile The Oldsmobile's drivers door was also extensively pushed in and the Buick received front end damage from that impact. Persons injured came from all of the cars involved.

The accident remains under investigation by Yarmouth Patrol Officer James Cheverie. He was assisted at the scene by Patrol Officers Scott Lundegren and Al Sprague. Lieutenant Stephen Xiarhos and Sergeant Chris McEachern also responded.

  • Has anyone every figured out why this particular intersection is so dangerous. It has been the scene of many serious accidents over the years and it was not long ago a woman lost her life there. Perhaps it is time for the town to undertake a study to see why this is and fix it.
