Dick -
I just read your piece on John Diliberto on hyannisnews.com, and the comments about how he listened to you on BZ back in the good old days…I listened to you every Saturday night religiously; I loved how you slipstarted a record to complete a statement…and you were (and probably still are) just a cool DJ to listen to. When I got into college radio at Franklin & Marshall (WWFM - there's a mouthful!) and later at BU (WTBU), you influenced me a lot.
I've heard you a few isolated times over the years on your late night NY show and a few commercials, and hearing you always brings a smile. And I just found your article about BZ in the old days and Al Heacock…what a treat!
Unfortunately, I never got into radio professionally, since my family and my fiance insisted I get a "real job"…LOL..but I still have that interest & love for the medium and the business. As a kid, I actually visted the BZ studio a few times on Saturday afternoons with Bruce Bradley, who was kind enough to "mentor" a mid-teen, pimply faced kid who was dying to break into the biz, but you weren't around at that time of day. I did meet you one time at a synagogue dance you were DJ'ing, but unfortunately, I never knew you personally, although it certainly felt like I did.
If you ever get to the cape, feel free to email if you and your family would like a tour, or just to visit a private beach (as in, no tourists…gated community, residents only) for a day.
Thanks again for the great memories!
