HYANNIS WEST END- The male driver of this of this high-speed one car accident is very lucky to be in stable condition at Cape Cod Hospital after the Ford Focus he was operating left the road, went through a one foot thick stone wall, broke through a tree that was just over a foot thick... finally striking and damaging a telephone pole just before coming to rest in the bushes in front of Bank of America near the West End Rotary.

According to a Cape Cod Hospital representative the driver is stable, but was suffering from a serious injury to one of his knees.

The male victim is believed to be in his twenties.

Hyannis News was several blocks away and heard the crash that sounded like a thunderous explosion.

At approximately 12:52am Barnstable Police received numerous calls about the accident.  Many young men and women stopped to help or see what was going on.

The bars were just starting to break up in downtown Hyannis and some witnesses said it seemed like the driver was traveling about 100 mph down Main Street… soon after is when they heard the loud crash.

One veteran first responder was amazed at the amount of force the car must have needed in order to drive through so many obstacles… he also believed high speeds had to be a factor…

It was originally believed that the driver had been ejected from the vehicle, but that has not yet been confirmed.

The plate on the vehicle came back to a 2002 Brown Ford Focus registered to a woman in her early fifties from Mashpee.

Hyannis Fire & Rescue transported the victim and insured that the crash scene was safe from fire and other hazards.

The accident is under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department.
